Investing Through an IRA

Seed Labs generally supports investing via an IRA, so long as your custodian supports investing into alternative assets. Investing via an IRA is a more involved process that can take longer to close. Note:

  • Completing an IRA investment generally takes about one to two weeks. This timeframe is largely due to the custodian's requirements and the time it takes for them to wire your funds. If you must finalize your investment in less than two weeks, consider investing under your own name or through another type of entity instead.

  • Your custodian may also need Seed Labs to fill out certain documents. Some IRA custodians ask investment sponsors, managers, or administrators to complete specific forms to streamline the investment. If that applies to you, please obtain these forms from your custodian and provide them to us promptly so we can help expedite your investment.

  • Your custodian might require you to complete specialized paperwork. Seed Labs will share critical information that custodians typically request, but you are ultimately responsible for filling out any forms your custodian needs.

  • Your investment will remain incomplete until we have the custodian's countersigned documents. Seed Labs will distribute the main paperwork for signatures, but we cannot close your investment until your custodian has signed and returned all necessary documents.

  • If you are investing into a deal with multiple capital calls, you might have to repeat this process for each new capital call. Different custodians handle multiple funding deadlines in various ways, and it is not unusual for them to require a fresh set of forms and procedures for every round of funding.

Only self-directed IRAs are accepted. Seed Labs does not support investments from 401(k)s, other retirement accounts, or entities subject to ERISA.
